DIY JANUARY CRAFTS! PART 1

This year, I am going to try and do two DIY's per month, because I know how much you love them guys, so this is part one for January. Okay, let's just get started. (PS. Like, super short intro, and it's kind of nice!)

1) DIY GLITTER BOWL

•Mod Podge
•Glitter
•Sponge brush
•Balloon

Coat a paint of mod podge onto your balloon (if you want a straight line for your bowl, then just use painters tape) and before the glue dries, pour on your glitter, and you want to make sure that you have newspaper under before you do anything, and then let that dry for a couple of hours or overnight. Once it's dry, paint another coat of mod podge on top of the glitter, let that dry, and pop the balloon once you're done, and you guessed it, put mod podge inside, dry, and then you're done!

2) DIY CRAYON COLOR BLOCK CANDLES

•Dixie cup
•Wax
•Crayons
•Wicks
•Votives
•Popsicle sticks (for stirring)

Pour a small amount of wax into a dixie cup and heat that up in a microwave for one minute. Stir and pour a thin layer into the bottom of a votive and place the candlewick in the bottom and let that harden. Now take out some crayons. (Here's a life hack for you; if you want to take off the paper more quickly, just use an Xacto knife) Use one crayon per color. Fill the dixie cups with wax and then top with a broken up crayon. Microwave for two minutes, and stir. Then microwave for another two minutes. Pop your votives (with wicks) on a plate stand and pour in the colored wax.

The goal is to create angled layers of colors, so you can tilt it while it's drying, or a friend, or prop it against something. Let the first layer dry for 20-30 minutes. Turn the votives around, and pour the second layer so you get another angle. Let dry for 20-30 minutes. Place the votive flat on your workspace to add the third layer. Let the third layer dry for one hour, and you are done! These make great party favors BTW!

3) DIY PERSONALIZED NOTEBOOK

DIY Tumblr Inspired School Supplies:

In math class, you usually have to buy a separate notebook for class, and it's usually really boring, so why not spice it up!

•Mod Podge
•Sponge brush
•Scissors
•Any pictures you want (preferably tumblr inspired)

All you have to do is cut out any images you want (overlapping is a good idea in this DIY because it looks super cute, and you can make sure there's no white space, and if you want to make sure no white is showing at all, just put a bigger piece of paper under the cover) and mod podge them onto the notebook, and when all the mod podge dries, put a coat over it so every single picture stays in place, and bam, literally almost costs zero dollars.

4) DIY FLOWER LAMP

I made one of these for my girls when they were tiny and it's still a favorite in their room! http://doityourselfcrafts.tumblr.com/post/4135575433/winsomethings-crafts-decor-diy-silk-flowers:

•Fake flowers
•Scissors
•Hot glue gun
•Lamp

Take some fake flowers, and cut off the stem so that the actual flower is all that's left, and hot glue gun it to your lamp, and let it dry for an hour or overnight, OR you can buy flowers that were already cut (fake flowers!).

5) DIY ART DECOR

DIY Colorful Art - Would be a great idea to get the kids to paint several sheets of paper then use them for the cut-outs!:

•Blue, purple, and white paint
•Circular whole puncher
•Paint brushes
•Paper
•Frame
•Mod podge
•Paper plates

(The paper and frame should be the same size, but if it's not, then just trace the removable part of the frame onto your paper, and cut the paper, and glue in on with some mod podge.)

Okay, so mix your three colors onto one paper plate (not all the way, because you want to see some white streaks, blue streaks, and purple streaks) and paint it onto one piece of paper, and cut them out into circles, and on another paper plate, mix some blue and white, and again, don't mix it all the way, and cut that with your circle hole puncher once again after you paint it on the paper. (And obviously you have to wait for the paint to dry before punching it.

Then take the paper that's the same size as the frame, and use a paint brush and mod podge the circles onto your paper (you may want to use a pencil and ruler before to separate them perfectly if you are a perfectionist) and glue that paper onto the back of the frame, and pop the back in, and boom!

Hope you guys enjoyed this post, and if you want to show me your recreations, on Instagram, use the #lookneondots so that I can see. Kisses to my neonators!

XOXO,

Neon Dots
