LION KING LIVE ACTION MOVIE REVIEW + LIFE UPDATE

Hey guys, what's up? It's Olivia and I. AM. BACK. I know I always say this and I typically don't stick to my word, but I'm going to try and blog as much as I can. I've missed being able to interact with everyone and share my ideas and the things that I'm interested in, with the world! I was reluctant to come back, mostly because I'm a completely different person than who I was before.

Not in any particular, specific way, and I like to think for the better. I've grown and learned lessons as a person, and I feared that if I were to start up blogging again, I wouldn't be able to convey the same image I used to have previously. Although I do enjoy being able to talk about things that I love. I am currently a film major at my school and I love to talk and write reviews about movies, so I figured what better way to get into the swing of things, than post a review for the Lion King, Live Action movie!

I'm always skeptical of when people decide to make a cartoon into a live-action. Mainly because if they've decided to do so, it's due to the original movie being such a huge success. Sometimes, movies are better left to the original version. What I mean by that is, when you change a movie and make it live-action (a movie with such success as the Lion King, for example), it won't always turn out the way you expect.

I went into the theater without any expectations and was, for the most part, pleasantly surprised! I'd say overall, I would give it a 7/10, and here's why.

POSITIVE THINGS:

The great thing about this movie is that almost everybody who came to watch the movie, like me, already knew the original plotline. Disney didn't change that. But despite knowing what was going to happen, the way that the crew was able to pull off and convey such emotion, and build such suspension was impressive.

Another huge thing was scoring. The music throughout the movie was one that I usually don't see in movies. All of the pieces helped boost the image that Disney was trying to show with that specific scene. All of them were moving in their own way; some made me feel happy, upset, nervous, and as an audience member, all of those feelings are great. People in the film industry want you to feel all of those things; they want you to be captivated and reeled in, and I would say Disney did a great job with that.

The computer animation was also great. Some movie franchises and companies cannot pull this off as well as Disney did.

OTHER/CONCLUSION:

I can't say there were any extraordinary shots in the movie that stood out to me. Most of it was fairly generic, however, I can understand why they'd decide not to have any special shots. For one, it's difficult to work with computer animation in the first place, let alone trying to do any crazy crane/panning shots. Also, with the Lion King's story timeline, it's more important to focus on the character's development, rather than camera shots. However, if they had included something creative in this aspect, I would have been even more drawn in.

I wouldn't say this is necessarily anything negative. But in my opinion, I don't think a movie belonging to Disney and as successful as the Lion King, needs to have any famous or well-known celebrities be part of the cast. Movies often do this so that their fanbase will come to watch the movie.

The Lion King (Live-Action) would have had a large number of people coming in, regardless. But while watching the movie, I was distracted mostly by Seth Rogan and Beyonce's voices, because they're so distinctive. I think they did a great job at voicing their characters, and nothing against them at all, but that was a bit distracting. If Disney had used any other actor that wasn't as well-known or famous as them, it would have been just as fine.

In conclusion, I would recommend The Lion King (Live-Action) to anybody who enjoyed the first, animated version that Disney released. I do have to say that the storyline and the movie in general, is a classic. If you enjoyed the first one, you would like this, and regardless, it is interesting being able to contrast the two versions.

Thank you guys so much for dropping by! I can't make any promises that I'll be blogging every single day, but I'll definitely try to do it as much as I can, whenever I have time! Bye guys!

XOXO,

Olivia
